Mount Independence-Hubbardton Military Road Symposium

PA290002

About 30 people turned out to learn more about and discuss the Mount Independence-Hubbardton Military Road on the morning of Saturday, October 29. The meeting was held at the visitor center at the Hubbardton Battlefield. Presentations were made by me (the Orwell section), Jim Rowe (Benson), Carl Fuller (Hubbardton), Tom Hughes (Castleton) and Jim Moore (West Rutland and Rutland). There is definitely genuine interest in reviving study and advocacy for this historic roadway that linked Mount Independence to the Crown Point Road in Rutland.

The meeting recommended that the Crown Point Road Association create a sub-committee called the Friends of the Mount Independence-Hubbardton Military Road. The possible goals of this committee include mapping the route of the road using more modern mapping methods, marking the route with new signs, and reprinting Joseph and Mabel Wheeler's book: The Mount Independence-Hubbardton 1776 Military Road
